The Glass Moon: Regret

This can serve as a cautionary tale as sorts, The Glass moon was the first book I ever had published. I poured my heart into it and it is a deeply personal book to me. I, unfortunately, went with a terrible publisher for the publication of my first novel. I was new, overly excited, and could not believe I had been offered publication by a big publisher. Years before this, I had tried many times with another novel that never saw the light of day. I knew how fierce rejection was in this line of work, and to have anyone interested was something I had not expected. The publishers (who I shall not name, but it is not hard to find out) took nearly two years to publish the book. This was ok, they checked the manuscript and offered me two pretty awful choices of a cover, which I later found out were just free vectors from the internet. All of this could be forgiven, but the final blow was the fact that I knew at least 30-50 people who had purchased the book. So, when royalties time came around, I was excited, they then claimed I had sold under 10….

I did not retort with any kind of legal action, it wasn’t worth it, and through deeper digging I found that these people had been taken to court many times before. I basically never receive royalties from the book, and have accepted that. The book is still something I am extremely proud of, and will always encourage people to check out despite me not really earning anything from it. I suppose the moral of this story is, don’t act in haste and get monumentally screwed over. On a side note of pure irony, I received many more legitimate offers to publish the glass moon, but I had already signed with Satan incorporated.
