Part 5
We are all standing in a dingy temple, with a fruit machine in the corner that seems to be glitching out. The crest of the fiver is on a flag that flaps away above the stone exit. The wizard lets out a sigh, and begins to walk, me and Melanie soon follow. Outside the temple is a dark green field that stretches towards flim of light, it reminds me of that hard game where killing monsters is really hard. The wizard stands with his arms on his side and takes it all in, me and Melanie do the same, and I am suddenly reminded of that moment of awakening on the way to work, where everything felt so vibrant I felt consumed in the beauty of nature. I look down at Melanie, in her mushroom form, and I think that she is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Just like her shoulders on that muggy day, or when she surprised me with a kite at the beach, I was embarassed at first, but she was so confident. Her knitted sweaters, all frayed and oversized, her hair brushes full of tangled locks, her love of thrifting the most diabolical clothes. I would stare at her when she people watched in coffee shops, her side profile was like an emperors, she has that prominent nose and jaw, she was my Melanie Aurulius. She was a bridesmaid once, and one of the friends of the groom made a comment about me being feminine enough to be a bridesmaid also. It is before I started growing my beard, Melanie spread rumours about him to everyone all night. He lost about 50 followers overnight, I mean, apparently he raped his sister, it turns out he doesn’t have a sister. She couldn’t attend her dads funeral properly, because she was a mushroom, I had to make excuses up for her. She stuck out of my breast pocket, and I knew inside that fungus she was crying more than anyone else there.
Wizard: “Alright, I am gonna take a wizz, just don’t look, control yourselves, you will only end up feeling inferior.”
Jealous of the first man with an anus for genetalia.
Wizard: “Draining the sea monster, I can’t go when you focus on me like that, talk amongst yourselves about the shit you are gonna do when shes not a mushroom or something.”
I am going to visit, properly, pay my respects.
Me: “It was properly, your soul transcends any shell and he will know that.”
There is a moment of serene silence, both our hearts ache long and deep, and then the sound of piss accumilating on the grass ruins it.
